As England’s men prepare for tonight’s huge World Cup quarter-final against Norway, the Piccadilly Gardens Neighbourhood Policing Team have already put in a man-of-the-match performance with another proactive weekend tackling crime across Manchester City Centre. Friday night saw the team get off to a flying start. PC Duffy arrested an adult male after discovering a significant quantity of cannabis concealed in his underwear during a stop search. As officers dealt with the incident, another male attempted to obstruct police and became increasingly abusive towards officers, earning himself an arrest on suspicion of obstructing police and a Public Order Act offence by PC Simm. It wasn’t the smartest tackle of the evening and certainly warranted a trip to the changing rooms.
Elsewhere, PC Zamecnik showed excellent awareness by arresting an adult male after witnessing him using a belt as a weapon to assault people known to him, bringing a swift end to the incident before it could escalate further. The pressure continued into Saturday night.
PC Cross was perfectly positioned to make it count, producing the policing equivalent of a back-post tap-in after locating an adult male in possession of cannabis.
PC Lomax then intercepted a male who had allegedly attempted to steal a mobile phone from a member of the public, making sure the suspect didn’t get through on goal.
Meanwhile, PC Micklewright rounded off another successful shift by arresting an adult male who was wanted on warrant after failing to appear at court. He's currently serving a one day suspension at Longsight custody suite.
Sergeant Jon Wyatt of the Piccadilly Gardens Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “Our officers continue to work tirelessly to keep Piccadilly Gardens and the wider city centre safe. Whether it’s disrupting drug-related offending, responding to violence, preventing theft or locating wanted individuals, the team remains committed to taking positive action every time they’re on patrol. I’m always proud of the professionalism, teamwork and dedication shown by every officer this weekend. Their proactive approach is making a real difference to those who live, work and visit our city centre.”
With the final whistle on the weekend yet to blow, the Piccadilly Gardens Neighbourhood Policing Team will continue their patrols across the city centre.
Good luck to England tonight—hopefully the Three Lions can book their place in the semi-finals. If they show the same work rate and determination as the Piccadilly Gardens Neighbourhood Team have this weekend, Thomas Tuchel will have every reason to be optimistic!
